For several years our adult formation classes have consisted of viewing and then discussing Great Courses video lectures on various religious topics. We recently completed a 24-lecture series, Lost Christianities: Christian Scriptures and the Battles over Authentication, recorded by Professor Bart D. Ehrman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a 36-lecture series, The History of Christianity: From the Disciples to the Dawn of the Reformation, recorded by Professor Luke Timothy Johnson of the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, and the course The History of Christianity II: From the Reformation to the Modern Megachurch, recorded by Dr. Molly Worthen, Assistant Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Currently, we are studying the course The Historical Jesus, recorded by Professor Ehrman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we began meeting weekly by Zoom on Saturday mornings, and are continuing to meet this way. We announce topics in advance and send participants a weekly summary of the most recent session and a brief description of the upcoming session.
All are welcome to join us for these lectures. There are no prerequisites—you can jump into a course at any point and still gain powerful enrichment.
Adult Christian Formation is on summer break until the fall 2024.
