For several years our adult formation classes have consisted of viewing and then discussing Great Courses video lectures on various religious topics. We recently completed a 24-lecture series, Lost Christianities: Christian Scriptures and the Battles over Authentication, recorded by Professor Bart D. Ehrman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a 36-lecture series, The History of Christianity: From the Disciples to the Dawn of the Reformation, recorded by Professor Luke Timothy Johnson of the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. We are currently viewing the course The History of Christianity II: From the Reformation to the Modern Megachurch, recorded by Dr. Molly Worthen, Assistant Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been meeting weekly by Zoom on Saturday mornings after Morning Prayer. We announce topics in advance through eTidings and send participants a weekly summary of the most recent session and a brief description of the upcoming session.
All are welcome to join us for these lectures. There are no prerequisites—you can jump into a course at any point and still gain powerful enrichment. If interested in attending the Adult Christian Formation meetings, contact Rich Johnson or Michael Power to request the Zoom link.
